Darwin Nunez ‘meeting with Premier League sides’ amid Arsenal and Tottenham transfer reports
The Benfica striker is attracting plenty of attention this summer after scoring 34 goals in 41 games last season.
Benfica striker Darwin Nunez has reportedly been meeting with a number of Premier League clubs ahead of a potential move this summer with Tottenham and Arsenal among the sides to have previously been linked with the Uruguay international.
Both Mikel Arteta and Antonio Conte are eager to bolster their frontlines this season. The Gunners are now without the services of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette with Eddie Nketiah the only out-and-out striker remaining at the Emirates.
Conte meanwhile is keen to bring in some quality back-up to Harry Kane as he plans the club’s return to Champions League football for the first time in four years. Nunez has caught the attention of both sides but the race for the 22-year-old’s signature looks set to be an intense battle.
A report from Football Transfers has stated that the striker has recently been in discussions with a number of Premier League clubs over a potential move this summer. As things stand Nunez has three years remaining on his current Benfica contract but is entertaining the idea of a move away.
The report states that while Nunez wants Champions League football next season, the draw of Manchester United may prove too strong for him as well. It is something of a blow to Arsenal’s chances of signing the marksman this summer but leaves Tottenham firmly in the running, although they are reportedly yet to solidify their own interest. Liverpool and Newcastle are also reportedly considering moves.
Nunez captured the world’s attention last season with an outstanding individual campaign for Benfica, scoring 34 goals in all competitions including six in 10 Champions League appearances.
