Marina Granovskaia’s next Chelsea transfer mission has been revealed after sealing top four spot

Chelsea suffered a final day defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough to deny them a top four finish in the Premier League this season.

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright insists adding a new striker to the squad this summer is a must for Chelsea, despite them securing a top four berth on the final day of the Premier League season yesterday afternoon.

The Blues, who face Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday evening in Porto, suffered a final day defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, going down 2-1 at Villa Park.

Goals either side of half time from Bertrand Traore and Anwar El Ghazi fired the home side into a two-goal lead before the Blues halved the deficit through Ben Chilwell’s strike 20 minutes from time. Although the former Leicester City defender’s effort was not enough to earn Chelsea a share of the spoils, the Blues did secure a top four finish thanks to Chilwell’s former club losing 4-2 at home to Tottenham Hotspur. That meant that Thomas Tuchel’s side finished in fourth and Leicester, for the second season in a row, missed out on the top four by just one place on the final day of the season.

In truth, the Blues can thank their lucky stars for Leicester’s defeat, with their performance at Villa, especially in the second half, leaving plenty of questions to be answered. In the first half, though, the Blues were on top, with chances proving frequent.

But as has been one of their biggest downfalls since Tuchel took charge towards the end of January, there was nobody there to finish them off and put the ball in the back of the net. With that said, former Arsenal striker Wright has challenged Chelsea to bring in a new goal-getter this summer, insisting that is all that is standing between them and becoming a top side.

“They were dominant. He [Tuchel] should be very disappointed,” Wright told BBC Sport’s Match of the Day. “The chances (they had), with a massive game coming up next week.

“The goalkeeper may be out. When you look at the domination they do have, that probably starts to sink into the defenders because you’re not taking your chances, you’re not scoring them, so you’re down there trying to keep them out.

“When you look at these chances, they’re very good chances. They’re missing too many, like I say.

“I feel for them because they’re doing everything they can to get into these positions. You have to put it into perspective: when he came, they were ninth, now they’re fourth. They’ve got to find this striker, because I don’t think they’re a million miles away.

“They’ve got to have one for next season.”

In recent weeks and months, the Blues have been linked with no shortage of options, including Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, a shock return for Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur.

But depending on what Chelsea are willing to spend to land the missing piece in their jigsaw, it remains to be seen who they will turn to in an attempt to strengthen their attacking options.
