“My son has learned a lesson” – Chelsea player’s father on difficulties with Frank Lampard

After helping Chelsea finish in top four last season, there were expectations for Frank Lampard to lead a Blues title charge this term, especially after they spent big in the summer.

Instead, Lampard lost his job in January and the west London club appointed Thomas Tuchel as his successor in the same month.

Since taking charge at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel has recalled some players who were ostracised by Lampard, and Marcos Alonos is among them.

Alonso made his first appearance in four months in his side’s 2-0 win over Burnley in January. Since then, he has added five more appearances and Chelsea have kept clean sheets in three of them, conceding two goals in the process.

The Spaniard’s father, also called Marcos Alonso, has now told Onda Cero what advice he gave his son during the difficult period in the first half of the season.

“I didn’t do it well [during his playing career] and you have to do it well in case another coach comes,” Alonso Sr said.

“Thanks to his effort, he has trained and he has not stopped, he has been able to do well and the coach can count on him.”

Alonso Sr has urged his son to treat the difficulties endured under Lampard as a lesson for his life.

“They are things that happen, you learn everything. And with Lampard on the bench surely my son has learned a lesson and knows that this is over and does not last for life,” he explained.

Chelsea were ninth when they sacked Lampard and are now fifth in the table with 43 points, two points behind fourth placed West Ham United.
