Roma boss Jose Mourinho eyes transfer move for Chelsea striker

Roma boss Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Chelsea striker and Arsenal transfer target Tammy Abraham, according to reports.

Abraham’s 17-year association with the Blues appears to be coming to an end, with the forward sidelined by Thomas Tuchel last season.

The 23-year-old only started 12 Premier League matches last term and was left out of a number of Tuchel’s matchday squads towards the end of the campaign, most notably the Champions League and FA Cup finals.

The imminent arrival of Romelu Lukaku – Chelsea are set to re-sign the Belgium striker in a club-record £97.5m deal – will only increase the likelihood of Abraham leaving west London before the summer transfer window closes.

Premier League rivals Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Abraham, who Chelsea value at £40m, as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking options at the Emirates. But Arsenal have now been joined in the transfer tussle by Roma, with former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Mourinho reportedly keen to work with Abraham.

With Lukaku set to leave Inter Milan, the Serie A champions are expected to move for Roma’s Edin Dzeko, and that would leave Mourinho short of attacking options.

Abraham is expected to be on the move this summer, with Arsenal also linked

But Gianluca Di Marzio says Roma will consider moving for Abraham if Dzeko departs, with Real Sociedad and Sweden forward Alexander Isak another player of interest.

Last month, former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson claimed Tuchel will ‘definitely’ sell Abraham and Blues teammates Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer.

He said: ‘I think if they get the right offer for Callum Hudson-Odoi or Tammy Abraham this summer then they will sell them. Definitely.
