Sheffield United host Chelsea at Bramall Lane this evening and the Blades are set to face a changed Blues lineup to the one that beat Tottenham on Thursday evening.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel admits he will be forced into changes when his side take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane tonight after the Blues’ hard-fought 1-0 win at London rivals Tottenham on Thursday night.
Thiago Silva’s early withdrawal at Spurs rules him out of tonight’s clash, with Andreas Christensen expected to replace him at the heart of a new-look back three for the visitors.
As a result of Chelsea’s tight turnaround for tonight’s clash, Tuchel has suggested he will be forced to rotate for the fixture.
“We have only two days so maybe we need some changes to be sharp and physical again,” he told the club website.
“We must be able to compete on the highest level against a strong and very physical Sheffield United side, which has won their last games.”
The Blades beat Chelsea 3-0 in this fixture last season in one of their best performances of their maiden season back in the top flight and Tuchel is aware of the threat Chris Wilder’s side pose his team despite the Blades’ struggles this season.
And while Chelsea’s win at Tottenham has reignited talk of a top-four finish this season at Stamford Bridge, the German’s focus is solely on tonight’s match..
“We have enough to do to take care about ourselves.
“I know that there are too many teams between us and the Champions League places but my approach is to take it step by step.
“The most important thing now is we don’t lose the focus and we take care of the atmosphere in the dressing room so we are able to compete again on Sunday.
“Once you raise your head up and look more than one game ahead, you lose your focus. I don’t know any other approach. Maybe other coaches do it differently but for me, it’s not possible.
“We prepare and then we wait for the next big match to arrive because it starts at 0-0 and if we want to get points we have to earn them.”
